Workshop #1 – "Essential Songwriting Techniques"
Jack Perricone, Chair of the Songwriting department at Berklee College of Music, will share ideas, techniques and approaches to songwriting that will either get you started writing or help you finish your song. Part of the presentation will focus on what is needed to be a successful songwriter in today's music business environment.

The Latin market is the largest minority market as well as the fastest growing market in the U.S.  Whether you are a Latin artist or general market artist you don't want to miss out on the opportunity this creates.  But in order to break into the Latin market, you need to understand it and learn the rules for success.  How were the recent lucrative crossover collaborations such as Wisin y Yandel with Akon and Aventura put together?  What are some of the opportunities and challenges surrounding international deals?

In this panel, we will look at digital distribution platforms and digital trends.  Industry thought leaders will discuss how digital industries provide new channels of revenue.  Some of the digital distribution platforms to be covered include video games, pod casts, websites and ring tones.  Digital trends include internet radio, social networks and mobile music product offerings.

What are the major labels looking for in an artist?  How can an artist get their attention?  We all know the days of huge advances and big budgets are over, but what has replaced that model?  What are the deals that are being offered these days?  How can an independent label get distribution with a major label?
