This workshop will include an industry overview, followed by an explanation of the roles of the key players behind the scenes including Management, Agents, Producers, Publicists, Lawyers etc. Talent development, talent marketing basics, music publishing, music distribution and new media, music business financials will also be covered.
This workshop will cover legal and licensing issues as well as copyrighting your materials, what it means to "sign with BMI," and how artists, producers and song writers are compensated.
Record labels have always been the focus of power, ideas, and money. Labels discovered the talent, pushed the songs, and got the product on the air and into the stores. Find out who are the major players, how they find their artists, and how you can get in to the game. Learn about why the new Jay Z/Live Nation 360 deal has an impact on you as an artist, why you never want the terms "cross collateralization" in your contract, and the differences between being signed to a major vs. an independent label.
